“In 2017, TAIEX1 and twinning proved to be among the most effective policy support instruments available to the Commission in the EU’s neighboring countries,” said Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and enlargement negotiations.
Ownership of the results from assistance provided is essential in the long term to address the root causes of the problems that create instability and insecurity in the Mediterranean region and in the East.
An example of a successful project in Algeria is the twinning in favor of the “Direction Générale des Impôts” which contributed to the modernisation of public finance management in the country.
TAIEX is the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Commission. TAIEX supports public administrations with regard to the approximation, application and enforcement of EU legislation as well as facilitating the sharing of EU best practices.
