“While some signs of hope arrive from Geneva (where discussions between various members of the Syrian opposition and the regime are set to start), today we are mourning new victims in Syria” near the Seyyida Zeinab shrine, Federica Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, said on Sunday 31 January.
This attack is “clearly aimed at disrupting the attempts to start a political process” begun in Vienna last November year, which “provides the best and probably only chance to bring the conflict in Syria to an end”, Mrs. Mogherini said.
