The Tunisian City of Meknassi in the Governorate of Sidi Bouzid will host the 3rd Edition of the Rural Cinema Festival (Cinéryf) from 6 to 10 September 2021 in rural public areas nearby this city (Mabrouka, Nasr, Karma and Mash).

This festival reinforces an alternative culture and streamlines the 7th Art in neglected areas at the initiative of the “Art in Meknassi” Association in partnership with the Center of Drama and Theatre Arts in Sidi Bouizid and the Cultural Alternative (Al Badil) Association, with the support of Tfanen– Creative Tunisia.

The 1st edition of the Rural Cinema Festival was launched in 2018 followed by a 2nd edition in 2019, then due to the sanitary and political conditions prevailing in Tunisia, the 3rd edition was postponed to 2021; this exceptional edition is therefore marked by local programming featuring awareness raising cultural films tackling major social and economic issues such as agriculture, water resources, food sovereignty, illegal migration and popular movements.

This edition aims at bringing close together the perspectives of proposed films’ producers with that of activists interested in selected topics during film presentations and subsequent discussions held with the public in rural areas’ public spaces.

Tfanen-Tunisie Créative programme aims at strengthening the Tunisian cultural sector. It is funded by the European Union in partnership with the EUNIC network (National Cultural Institutes of the European Union) and implemented by the British Council.
