Brief Description

The overall objective of EuroMed Justice is to contribute to the development of a Euro-Mediterranean area of effective, efficient and democratic justice system respectful and protective of human rights by the strengthening of the rule of law and continuously progressing towards the alignment to international legal frameworks, principles and standards.

Objectives

  • To foster the effective co-ordination and co-operation between the South Partner Countries and the EU in the area of civil and criminal justice.
  • To support the relevant reforms regarding the independence of justice and access to justice in the South Partner Countries.

Actions in brief

  • Establishment of a mechanism of cooperation based on national and regional platforms directly connected with and sustained by Eurojust and EJN in criminal matters UNODC, UN-CTED, CoE-CDPC and IAP.
  • Working sessions of experts groups in criminal matters (CrimEx), cross-border family disputes, legal aid, capacity building of the High Judicial Councils, drafting of analytical tools, Handbooks, study visits, training of trainers.

Implementing partners: Lead Firm: FIIAPP (Spain), in Consortium with: the Center for International Legal Cooperation – CILC (the Netherlands), the European Institute of Public Administration – EIPA (the Netherlands), and Justice Coopération Internationale – JCI (France).
