The European Commission has adopted two new support programmes to support industrial and economic diversification and participatory democracy and local development in Algeria. The total amount of the two actions is €25 million and will be funded under the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI).

The Support programme for industrial and economic diversification (€17 million) aims to support Algeria’s efforts in industrial and economic diversification, and improving the business climate. It will contribute to sustainable economic development, with the creation of necessary conditions for the growth of the industrial private sector.

The Programme for strengthening participatory democracy and local development (€8 million) seeks to improve citizen participation in the planning and implementation of municipal policies in public service and economic development. This will lead to concerted, transparent communal governance, responsive to the needs of citizens, particularly young people and women. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
