Building upon the successful Palestinian Police Women’s Conference, Shaping the future of Palestinian Police Women, held in Ramallah in May 2022, itself the first of its kind, January 2023 saw the formal launching ceremony of the Network, the PPWN – Palestinian Police Women Network.
Following months of preparation by the Mission’s Police Advisory Section (PAS) in collaboration with the Gender Advisor, UNWOMEN and PCP, the steps leading to the launching of the Network were established. In collaboration with PCP, 25 female PCP officers were engaged as founding members of the PPWN.
The next steps include the finalization of the PPWN’s annual plan, as well as the application for affiliate status within the International Association of Women Police (IAWP). Funding remains a challenge, and exploring sustainable funding options is a priority, not least to ensure that the PPWN will become a stand – alone and sustainable entity.
To this effect, EUPOL COPPS, as a strategic partner of PCP, will continue to provide support to the PPWN, in an attempt to assist in overcoming any challenges, the aim being that the PPWN develops into a network that is highly beneficial for female police officers, recognizing their importance as part of the PCP, and ensuring that the female component of the PCP is adequately represented on the international scene.
