The Union for the Mediterranean organised a study visit to Swedish companies for public and private sector professionals from the Southern Mediterranean region. This was carried out with the support of German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

Participants from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia were able to immerse themselves in the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, learn best practices and network.

Several meetings were held with a wide range of Swedish stakeholders who highlighted their experience regarding trade and development aid, government support policies, the innovation ecosystem, access to market and finance as well as advocacy.

The final day of trip was dedicated to a field visit to the University of Uppsala where insights on the city’s innovation-driven ecosystem, from promoting entrepreneurship among students and incubation to funding and the collaboration between researchers and companies, were discussed.
