Brief Description

D-Jil aims to support young citizens in the Arab world through the media. It will run over four years and mentor 20 initiatives from the covered countries.

Countries covered: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia.

Objectives

D-Jil’s overall objective is to contribute to the active citizenship and empowerment of young people in the target countries of the southern neighbourhood by using online media as a vector.

Actions in brief

After collecting the needs, 2 calls for applications will be launched to pre-select 60 online platforms and media projects that reflect the interests of young people; they will be invited to hackatons (gatherings that will allow them to structure their projects) at the end of which 20 projects (selected by a jury of young people) will receive a grant and support through incubation sessions and meetings (February 2018).

D-Jil is based on 4 results:

R1 “Collect”: The needs of the younger audiences (men/women) in the target countries (particularly in isolated regions) are collected (on the basis of existing, audience feedback on funded programs and during project meetings) and systematically taken into account in the development of innovative programs.

R2 “Realize”: 10 innovative online programs/platforms reflecting the challenges that young people are truly interested in (education, employment, private life, religion, culture, sports and women) are broadcasted in their language.

R3 “Engage”: 10 participatory and inclusive online programs, which combine media and civil society organisations, allow young people to strengthen their media literacy and become more involved in public and local life.

R4 “Share”: The exchanges of best practice in terms of online media programs and interactive tools for youth are promoted at a regional level.

Implementing partners : CFI – Transtélé Canal France International (coordinator), Forum des Alternatives Sociales au Maroc, Irex Europe, Fondation Samir Kassir, Qadat al Ghad Le Tanmiat al Mahara (in English=Leaders of Tomorrow).

The Jordan Media Institute is associated to the project.
