Led by MedMedia, an EU-funded project, Tunisian media stakeholders discussed the creation of a “special mechanism for media freedom in the Arab World”, at a seminar held on January 15, according to a statement published on MedMedia’s website.

The Tunisian journalists’ association and HAICA (Independent High Authority for Audio-visual Communications) took part in the discussions along with other civil society organisations and human rights associations.

In its statement, MedMedia said that the participants were invited to examine various proposals to set up a “special mechanism”, define its “mandate, structure and funding as well as a draft an Arab Declaration on the principles of media freedom.”

“In the coming weeks, the technical proposal aimed at developing the mechanism and the draft Declaration will be available for interested organisations to share their comments and contributions”, MedMedia said.
