Yesterday was Safer Internet Day. The European Union Police and Rule of Law Mission (EUPOL COPPS) supports its law enforcement partners to keep Palestinian safe online: “The illegal use of the internet and the darknet poses a serious threat to people,” says Michele Tarlao, Adviser on Anti-Narcotics and Organized Crime. “For this reason, our advisers have financed, supported and delivered trainings on organised crime in cyberspace, Anti Money Laundering and International Judicial Cooperation among other topics”.

“We recently supported colleagues from the Palestinian Civil Police and Ministry of Interior of Palestine to attend a course offered by the EU4Monitoring Drugs (EU4MD) project in Amman, Jordan for law enforcement officers from Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Palestine on darknet drug-related investigations,” the adviser from the Italian State Police added.

EUPOL COPPS has also produced a compact information booklet with the Palestinian Civil Police aimed at vulnerable groups, including students, highlighting online risks.

EUPOL COPPS is the European Union Co-ordinating Office for Palestinian Police Support. The aim of the Mission is to contribute to the establishment of sustainable and effective policing arrangements and to advise Palestinian counterparts on criminal justice and rule of law related aspects under Palestinian ownership.
