The closing seminar of an EU-Morocco Twinning project on human rights provided an opportunity to review recent achievements in the field of human rights in Morocco, highlighting the results of this institutional partnership and ways to ensure that they are sustainable.

The seminar was organised on 8 September by the Ministry of State responsible for Human Rights, and was attended by the Moroccan and European partners involved in implementing the Twinning project on ‘Strengthening the organisational and technical capacities of the Inter-Ministerial Delegation on Human Rights’, which ran from 2014-2017.

The seminar highlighted the project’s role in the promotion and protection of human rights in Morocco, by building up the coordination and policy development capacity of the Inter-Ministerial Delegation for Human Rights, promoted to Ministry of State responsible for Human Rights.

This twinning project saw the development of six practical guides and 13 training sessions for more than 180 representatives of government departments and national institutions working in the field of human rights protection and promotion. It also made it possible to establish the foundations of a documentation centre specialising in human rights, to develop a master plan for information systems, and to organise 10 visits to exchange experience and expertise.

The project also resulted in the development of a participatory information system enabling relevant government departments and institutions to report on the implementation of the recommendations of UN human rights mechanisms in a comprehensive and systematic manner.
