A database of the Algerian cultural heritage, allowing the inventory of cultural assets in the country, will be developed by the Algerian Research Centre for Scientific and Technical Information (CERIST), with support of the EU-funded Heritage programme.

«TOUISA» is an application that will allow the processing and management of inventory fiches of cultural resources, being developed in 12 pilot wilayas: Algiers, Ain Temouchent, Annaba, Batna, Bejaia, Chlef, Khenchela, Mila, M’Sila, Saida, Skikda and Tlemcen.

This pilot tool will also allow the sharing of information on cultural heritage. After a test phase, the application will be open to a wider public allowing people interested in feeding it to do so. The final perspective of this initiative is to move towards the creation of a rational map of Algeria’s cultural heritage and a tool to support decision-making with regards to the protection and management of cultural heritage.

The Heritage programme Algeria aims to support the inclusion of cultural heritage as a development tool in Algeria and to contribute to its identification, protection and development. It also seeks to build capacities in the sector at central and local level and provide technical support. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
