On Tuesday 6 February in Rabat, the European Union launched  the Strategic Support Programme for Civil Society in the presence of the Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco, Ms Patricia LLOMBART CUSSAC, and Ambassadors and representatives of Member States of the European Union.

The programme is inspired by the Constitution of 2011 which considers civil society as a key actor in defining, implementing and assessing public programmes and policies; it should also be seen in the context of the establishment of priorities in the roadmap for the EU’s engagement with civil society approved by the EU and the Member States for the period 2021-2027. The programme aims to provide support that is even more suitable and strategic by accompanying actors of civil society in their efforts to strengthen their structural and strategic role.

The overall purpose of the programme is to promote more participative and inclusive governance by means of a more resolute involvement of Civil Society Organisations in defining, implementing and assessing public programmes and policies. More specifically, this programme supports the action of Moroccan associations in six thematic areas: the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities; the protection of children; women’s rights; access to justice; governance; and environmental protection and the fight against climate change.
