EU supports Tunisia with €50 million for private sector development, training and green energies

The EU is providing €50 million in additional funding for Tunisia, to support development of the private sector and professional training, as well as renewable energies and energy efficiency.
 
The package was approved at a meeting this week between EU Head of Delegation Laura Baeza and Tunisian Minister for Development, Investment and International Cooperation Yassine Brahim.
 
The €32 million ‘Regional initiative for support of sustainable economic development’, aims to boost the competitiveness of enterprises and employability in the regions of Kasserine, Gafsa, Sidi Bouzid, Médenine, Sfax, Gabes, Bizerte and Jendouba, while supporting improvements in the provision of professional training.
 
Its action be complemented by the ‘Support programme for professional training and insertion’, which will benefit from a €3 million EU grant and a €24.7 million loan from the French Development Agency.
 
Finally, €15 million is allocated to the project for ‘Sustainable use of natural resources and energy finance in Tunisia’, which will support access to a €100 million credit line provided by European IFIs for stakeholders wanting to invest in sustainable energy actions. (EU Neighbourhood Info)
