Digital transformation can contribute significantly to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the Ministerial Declaration emanating from the UfM Ministerial on Employment and Labour (Marrakech, 18 May 2022), the Ministers expressed their shared willingness to “explore pathways for accelerating digital transformation as a vehicle for the creation of more decent jobs, economic growth, and an important vector of innovation and creativity.”

In this spirit, the UfM Secretariat is partnering with the German Development Cooperation and the AfricaMed Business Forum to hold a UfM Conference on Digital Transformation in Tangier, Morocco, on 18 December 2023, with a focus on the role of digital transition in promoting green transition and the path forward to develop enabling digital ecosystems in the UfM region. This event is part of the UfM Roadmap on Employment and Labour 2022-2025, implementing the UfM Marrakech Ministerial Declaration of 2022, and will be co-sponsored by the European Union.

The Conference will bring together a broad spectrum of partners and stakeholders from both shores of the Euro-Mediterranean region to exchange insights, experiences, and best practices to address the current opportunities and challenges with respect to unleashing the full potential of digitalization in the region. Recommendations emanating from the Conference will guide future actions on this area of priority in the region. On 19 December, the participants will engage in an organised city tour to explore the landmarks of the Old City.
